Villa Mariblu
Villa Mariblu is situated above the beach Dei Rocchi ( the location is called Lago), this ancient cave used to be the quarry from which the Greeks got their limestone which was then used to erect the columns of the temple of Poseidonia, now known as Paestum. The large holes that were formed in the rock due to the quarrying have now become natural swimming pools worn away by the water.
Villa Mariblu, surrounded by waves, was built in the 60s by the architect Nicola Pagliara, using the stones that fell on the beach while building the Punta Tresino pathway. The villa leads to the northern part of the Cilento National Park an area rich in Mediterranean vegetation. It is the ideal place for trekking and exploring ancient rural buildings.
In 1972 the villa, or to be more precise the area of the basin from Punta Tresino to Punta Licosa, was considered the first Italian Marine Park.
The Villa Mariblu was featured in the magazine ‘l’Architettura’ by Bruno Zevi (1967) and it was thought to be one of the most beautiful Italian villas due to its modern architecture. Villa Mariblù which fully represents Mediterranean tradition and taste also has a lovely Bed and Breakfast where you can spend a relaxing time.
Marvel at the surrounding natural environment, go on excursions and sightseeing trips, and witness the natural-historical-archaeological sites of the Cilento.
The villa is located just a few metres from the shore and has direct access to the beach ‘Dei Rocchi’. It offers comfortable, bright and well-furnished rooms. There is a spectacular view of the beach where you can admire the wonderful sunsets of Castellabate
The building is set within extensive grounds where you can spend the days and nights relaxing to the surrounding ocean backwash and the rustle of the wind and sound of the hoopoe.
It is possible to spend the night in the tower of the villa, in a luxurious double room which overlooks two striking views: one of the sandy beaches equipped with all the necessary beach facilities and the other of the rocks and cliffs which protect the unblemished bays with spectacular beaches which have been awarded the Italian “Bandiera Blu” for their unpolluted waters.
Underwater itineraries and marine archaeology draw us closer to nature providing both harmony and balance.
Let yourself be tempted into exploring this area, just as Ulysses was tempted by the melody of the mermaid Leucosia in these very waters. The Cilento with its legendary and mythical lands captures and inspires its visitors.
At the base of the tower of San Marco, it is believed that the marquis exercised his rights of Jus Primae Noctis on the sailor’s bridesgo riding along the paths where it is said that San Costabile drove back the Saracen pirates, who had already disembarked at Pozzillo and were ready to invade Castellabate.
Go for a walk along the port of San Marco, built during the Roman Age, around the I° century before Christ, then called Erculia dreaming of sailing to an unexplored Africa on one of the ships leaving the port;
Discover some of the archaeological findings such as an amphora from the Roman age, submerged in Punta Licosa and now in the Museum of the sea of Villa Matarazzo.
