Cicerale is known for its chickpeas. This special legume has been grown here since the 11th century and is now a Slow Food presidium.

Cicerale, an ancient village in the lower Cilento, is the land of chickpeas, as evidenced by the motto on the town's coat of arms, which translates from Latin to mean "Land that feeds the chickpeas". It is located on a hill overlooking the upper valley of the Alento River at the border with the municipality of Agropoli. The oldest part of the village develops from Piazza Primicile Carafa, the seat of the Marchesale palace, along a sloping alley with stone houses on either side. At the end of the first stretch of the road is the 17th-century church of San Giorgio with an ancient bell tower that overlooks the surrounding houses. The hilly landscape, the nearby Mount Cicerale, and the valley of the Alento River offer the opportunity to walk along wonderful trails in contact with nature. One of the most beautiful is the one that goes from the Alento River to the Feudo di Corbella, defined in the past as "The Gate of Cilento." Cicerale is above all the land of chickpeas. Grown since the year 1000, the chickpeas of Cicerale are a precious legume, a Slow Food presidium. In the summer, immediately after Ferragosto, there is the most anticipated gastronomic event, the "Festa dei Ceci." Five kilometers from the village is the Alento River Oasis, a natural oasis where you can practice numerous activities: sport fishing, trekking, mountain biking, canoeing, horseback riding, and soccer.
