Under the shadow of Mount Licosa (326 meters above sea level), just beyond a lush and dense pine forest, lie many charming rocky beaches belonging to the Castellabate Marine Reserve. This extreme part of the Gulf of Salerno closes right at the height of the islet on which a signaling lighthouse stands. This islet is called "Licosa" following the legend that its origin is due to the transformation of the siren Leucosia who, after throwing herself from the cliff for an unrequited love, turned into a rock. A compound of lush trees and shrubs and variegated flowers, typical of the Mediterranean scrub, hides a small village harmoniously inserted right on the slopes of Mount Licosa. However, the real treasure is represented by the coastal strip and the marine reserve: beaches, seabeds, and inlets that blend together in a natural harmony.

Access to Punta Licosa is possible through two roads located in the hamlets of Ogliastro Marina and San Marco di Castellabate. The islet of Licosa finally represents the best destination for those who want to take a boat trip. Starting from San Marco di Castellabate, you can reach Punta Licosa through a very suggestive and easy route, with a duration of about 2 hours and a difference in height of only 40 meters, ideal for those who go hiking and also for those who love to admire the seascapes. Starting from the port of San Marco di Castellabate, you face a first part of the itinerary in the shade of Aleppo pines, myrtles, lentisks, and carob trees until you descend to the coast more exposed to the sun. Even today part of the Marine Reserve that goes from Punta dell'Ogliastro to the Baia del Sambuco, is under marine biological protection, and represents one of the first examples of marine park in Italy, having been established in 1972.
