Pisciotta, located on the stunning Cilento coast, is a village rich in tradition and natural beauty. Discover its crystal-clear sea and authentic charm.
Pisciotta is a charming village located along the coast of Cilento, in the province of Salerno. This town is known for its perfect combination of medieval charm and the beauty of the crystal-clear sea. Also famous for its production of high-quality extra virgin olive oil, Pisciotta offers an authentic atmosphere that attracts visitors in search of tranquility, nature, and tradition. The medieval village of Pisciotta, which develops around Palazzo Ciaccio, retains a unique and captivating atmosphere. The church of SS. Pietro e Paolo is an example of religious architecture, with its impressive façade and historically rich interiors. Walking through the cobblestone streets, visitors can discover hidden corners and panoramic views that provide a sense of peace and serenity.
Continuing along a scenic road, you reach Marina di Pisciotta, a beautiful seaside location famous for its sandy beaches and crystal-clear waters. Here, tourists can enjoy a variety of experiences related to traditional fishing. One of the most fascinating is the practice of menaica, a traditional fishing technique that uses a large-mesh net left adrift to catch the freshest anchovies. This centuries-old technique allows for fish with delicate meat and unmistakable flavor. Tourists have the opportunity to witness the night fishing and taste the fresh anchovies, either served in local restaurants or purchased directly from the fishermen, who continue to practice this tradition in the clear waters of Pisciotta.
Pisciotta is also an ideal starting point for exploring the Cilento National Park, with hiking trails that traverse pristine nature, and for discovering the nearby beaches of Marina di Pisciotta, known for their beauty and water quality. A perfect mix of history, culture, nature, and gastronomy makes Pisciotta an unmissable destination for those wishing to immerse themselves in the authenticity of Cilento.

Pisciotta: what to do and what to see
Pisciotta is an ancient village on the coast of the province of Salerno. The historic center is dotted with narrow streets, noble palaces and churches, including that of San Michele Arcangelo and the Madonna della Mercede. The squares (we highlight the Piazzetta del Cannone, which offers a spectacular view of the roofs of the houses, the olive trees and the sea) offer spectacular views of the city and the sea, while the Marina di Pisciotta is renowned for its its crystal clear waters and pebble beach. The place is also an ideal starting point for excursions and trekking in the Cilento National Park, Vallo di Diano and Alburni. One of the most popular hiking trails in Pisciotta is the Sentiero del Castelluccio, which crosses the territories of Rodio, Pisciotta and Caprioli. The route can be challenging, particularly the longest version which measures over 10 kilometers with over 500 meters of altitude difference, reaching the summit of Castelluccio at 701 meters above sea level. However, the spectacular view of the Cilento coast and surrounding mountains is definitely worth it. Finally, we recommend visiting the Sanctuary of Sant'Agnello Abate, an ancient and important church located in Rodio, a hamlet of the municipality of Pisciotta. Its thousand-year history dates back to more than 500 years ago, when the cult of Sant'Agnello Abate began to spread in the region. In 2009, the church was elevated to a sanctuary, thus recognizing its spiritual and cultural importance for the local community.
