The path of Punta Licosa and the coves on the coast in San Marco di Castellabate.

San Marco di Castellabate is a popular tourist destination in the Cilento region for its diverse and attractive landscape. Located on the coast between Santa Maria di Castellabate and Licosa, about 15 kilometers from Agropoli and 18 kilometers from Acciaroli, San Marco is part of the Santa Maria di Castellabate marine protected area. This area has a rich and varied natural heritage that stretches from Punta Tresino to Ogliastro. The territory is full of natural beauty and is also home to a rich history, having been populated since the Paleolithic era, as evidenced by the various artifacts found near the sea cave along its coast.

The historic center of San Marco di Castellabate is largely made up of late 19th century buildings and is located around the square where the church of San Marco Evangelista is located. In the vicinity of the ancient Greek-Roman harbor, a functional tourist port has also been built and in recent decades the hamlet has incorporated the locality of Torretta, which represents its commercial area. In this area there is a fortified farmhouse dating back to the 17th century that gives its name to the area. The "Torretta", formerly the residence of some marquises, was used in the past for the processing of agricultural products and as a food storage facility. Recently, the "Porto-Pozzillo" path has been completed, a section of walkway with panoramic views and descents to the sea between the beach of the Grotta and the port of San Marco di Castellabate.

For lovers of trekking and long walks in contact with nature, the path that leads from the port to Punta Licosa and Ogliastro Marina is a must-do. A stretch of coast that can be covered on foot in less than 2 hours, surrounded by Mediterranean scrub and pine forests. Along the way, there are many small coves whose waters are part of the Punta Licosa Marine Reserve. Finally, it is worth remembering that on April 25th, the patron saint of San Marco is celebrated: a historical religious event that is repeated every year with a procession of the saint by sea and fireworks at midnight on the port.

San Marco di Castellabate: what to do and what to see

San Marco is a small seaside village in the municipality of Castellabate. It has been awarded the Blue Flag of Europe for several years. Its bay is part of the Santa Maria di Castellabate marine protected area, where fishing is strictly prohibited. Its charming atmosphere has inspired several italian films.

The village has a marina, from which summer trips depart on the Metro del Mare to the island of Capri, Amalfi, and Positano. A pleasant walk leads from the port to the suggestive beach of the Grotta, so called for the presence of a natural cave that has yielded Paleolithic artifacts. For lovers of long walks, there is a path that starts from the port and leads to Punta Licosa and Ogliastro Marina. Between San Marco and Santa Maria di Castellabate is the beach of Pozzillo, characterized by a very shallow bottom, ideal for children. Here, the little ones can enjoy the sea in complete safety. This splendid location offers a quiet and relaxing environment, with the possibility of taking long walks on the beach and admiring the natural beauty that surrounds it.
