Among towers, forts and caves: a six-hour adventure along the coast of Palinuro.
Palinuro is one of the coastal towns in the Cilento region that boasts some of the most evocative views in the province of Salerno. Hiking the "Primula" trail allows you to immerse yourself completely in nature, admire breathtaking views and visit, by trekking, one of the most beautiful places in the Cilento, Capo Palinuro. The trail is named after a plant characteristic of the cliffs of the Cilento town that blooms from February to April, the Primula Palinuri. It is also a symbol of the Cilento National Park and is now protected by regional and national laws because it is at risk of extinction. Along the trail, in addition to the primroses, it is possible to see towers, forts, beaches and rocky walls with caves, but also archaeological areas of historical interest. The trail can be started from both the Mingardo mouth (near the natural arch of Palinuro) and the Ficocella Beach in the town center. For those who intend to undertake the route from the city center, they can, alternatively, start the trail from the marina. The route is about 14 kilometers long with an average travel time of about 6 hours. The difficulty level is low. Starting from the mouth of the Mingardo, it is possible to admire the "Arco Naturale", the "Scoglio del Coniglio" and the promontory of Capo Palinuro. Along the Lambro river you reach the Tempa della Guardia, a noteworthy archaeological site. Then you continue for Carminella and then for Piano Faracchio. Taking a steep climb to the promontory, you can immerse yourself in the pine forest that reaches the Forte di Monte d'Oro and then to the tower of "Cala Fetente" which overlooks the sea. Continuing to walk, you descend towards Punta Iacco and continuing on the cliffs overlooking the sea of "Cala Ribatto", you arrive at Punta Quaglia. You climb to an altitude of 210 meters above sea level near the Faro di Palinuro from which a breathtaking view stands out from which you can see Marina di Camerota and partly the Calabrian coast. Then you walk the last stretch that reaches the Palinuro marina and the entrance to the town, up to "Cala Ficocella" where you can visit the Torre del Porto and the museum of the town, the Antiquarium. The Primrose Trail is a great way to experience the beauty and history of the Cilento National Park. The trail is challenging but rewarding, and it is a great way to get some exercise and enjoy the outdoors.
