Palinuro, the alcove of Good Sleep and other hidden wonders of the Cilento coast.
Palinuro is a renowned seaside resort located in an enchanting inlet, surrounded by olive trees and full of sea caves. According to legend, the city owes its name to the helmsman of Aeneas, who was shipwrecked here. From the port of Palinuro it is possible to explore the wonderful coast of the promontory, a majestic wall that rises above the sea, with beaches hidden in the numerous inlets. One of the most famous attractions of Palinuro is the Blue Grotto, located before the tip of the promontory and apparently hidden. The cave takes its name from the extraordinary bright blue hue of its waters, which reflect the sunlight coming from a nearby and inaccessible well. Along the coastal route, you can discover other fascinating caves, until you reach the suggestive "Cala Fetente", where a source of sulphurous water flows from its rocks. Passing" Punta della Galera", you reach the "Baia del Buon Dormire", a splendid beach that can only be reached by sea, which represents a popular destination for the elite in search of a peaceful refuge. Palinuro enchants its visitors with its pristine beauty and offers a unique experience in nature. Its mysterious caves, hidden beaches and the legendary history that surrounds the city make it an ideal place for an unforgettable holiday of relaxation and exploration.

Palinuro: what to do and what to see
Palinuro, a hamlet of the municipality of Centola, is among the most sought-after tourist locations in Cilento for the quality of the sea and the tourist services offered. The coastal landscape is full of sea caves (32) some of which can be visited by taking part in boat excursions or scuba diving organized by the tourist operators of the port of Palinuro. The most visited are: the Blue Grotto, the Silver Grotto, the Monks' Grotto, the Blood Grotto and the Bone Grotto. The coastal beaches are well organized with quality tourist services. Worth mentioning is the Buondormire beach which can only be reached by sea and the two adjacent beaches of Marinella and Molpa. For free climbing enthusiasts, the Molpa massif is an equipped crag suitable for this type of activity. The Climbrave Festival also took place in 2013. Further south, a few steps from the town of Palinuro, there is the Saline beach. One of the largest beaches in Cilento with approximately 5 km of length. Finally, worth mentioning is the sentiero dei Fortini e delle Torri which from the port of Palinuro leads to the top of the promontory with suggestive panoramic views of the coast.

How to reach Palinuro
To reach Palinuro by car, there are two main options, depending on the starting point. If you are traveling from the north, you need to take the A3 Salerno - Reggio Calabria motorway and exit at Battipaglia. From here, continue on the SS 18 in the direction of Agropoli, Vallo della Lucania and Futani. Once you reach Poderia, take the SR 562 which runs along the Mingardo river and proceed in the direction of Palinuro. If instead you start from the south, you must always take the A3 Salerno - Reggio Calabria motorway but exit at Buonabitacolo and continue on the SS 517. Once you reach Policastro Bussentino, turn right and take the SS 18 in the direction of Poderia. From here, continue in the direction of Palinuro always on SR 562 which runs alongside the Mingardo river. It is important to keep in mind that during the summer season, the roads may be busier and there may be queues in some areas. Furthermore, in some areas of the road, especially on the coastal section, the route can be quite tortuous and require greater attention while driving. The closest station is in Centola. In summer the Centola urban shuttle service is active, intended for the entire Palinuro area. The nearest airport to Sapri is Napoli-Capodichino International Airport. From the airport, you can take a train or bus to Palinuro. It is best to rent a car when you arrive in Naples, especially in the low season. This is because there are not many public transportation options available to visit the Cilento areas and get around easily.
