Villammare is a charming coastal hamlet located in the municipality of Vibonati, on the southern coast of Cilento. The town boasts an ancient maritime history, evidenced by the presence of the watchtower, built in the 16th century to defend against pirate incursions. The town develops along a coastline characterized by the presence of citrus groves and olive groves, with old fishermen's houses alternating with elegant noble palaces along the seafront. Inland, on a hill, stands the picturesque village of Vibonati, with its narrow stone streets and characteristic white stone portals, which have earned it the nickname "Town of portals". The tourist will have the opportunity to combine a relaxing holiday by the sea with moments of leisure without forgetting that nearby it is possible to visit Mount Sirino.

Villammare: what to do and what to see

Located in the splendid setting of the Gulf of Policastro, Villammare is a small seaside village with unique characteristics that make it a tourist destination of great interest. The historic center of the town develops around the church dedicated to the Madonna of Portosalvo and the Saracen tower which rises majestically on the coast. The beaches of Villammare are another great attraction of the town. They are easily reachable on foot from the town center and offer a wide range of tourist services. In particular, the beach north of the town center is very quiet and not crowded. Villammare is a town that boasts a strong religious tradition and the festivity of the Madonna of Portosalvo is one of the most important events of the year. The celebration includes daily mass in the evening in August, and culminates with the evocative procession by sea. During this procession, the statue of the Madonna is carried on a boat and accompanied by numerous other boats, which follow its path along the coast, creating a unique show of lights and colors. Once disembarked, the faithful accompany the statue to the chapel in the "Marinella" area and then along the streets of the town, accompanied by the music of the local band

How to reach Villammare

Villammare is a tourist resort located in the Gulf of Policastro, in the province of Salerno, in southern Italy. To reach it, you can take the A3 Salerno-Reggio Calabria motorway, exiting at the Padula-Buonabitacolo toll booth and then follow the signs for Sapri and finally for Villammare. Alternatively, you can take the train to Sapri station, located just 4 km from the town of Villammare.
