Ancel Keys's legacy: The Museo della Dieta Mediterranea in Pioppi, Italy.
A historical residence built in the mid-17th century by the Ripoli family near the beach of Pioppi, it was donated to the municipality of Pollica in 1986. In 1998, Palazzo Vinciprova opened to the public with the aim of presenting the typical marine habitats of the Cilento coast to the public in the Museo Vivo del Mare on the ground floor. It was then followed by the "Museo della Dieta Mediterranea", founded in honor of the American doctor Ancel Keys, who studied the diet of the local population for many years, discovering what is now defined as the Mediterranean lifestyle. The rooms contain videos, images, and texts that tell the story of the Mediterranean diet. The personal library of Dr. Keys, which the scholar donated to the Municipality of Pollica, is also located on the same floor. The Ecomuseum of the Mediterranean Diet also extends beyond the building, with trails, educational gardens on the Pioppi seafront, and immaterial projects. Visitors to Palazzo Vinciprova and the Ecomuseum of the Mediterranean Diet can also stay in vacation homes and accommodations in Pioppi, making it a convenient and enjoyable way to learn about the Mediterranean diet and the Cilento region.

The Living Museum of the Mediterranean Diet is located on the upper floor of Palazzo Vinciprova and is open all year round, except Tuesdays, from 9.30am to 12.30pm and from 4pm to 7pm (from 5.30pm to 8pm :30 from June to September). The cost of the entrance ticket also includes access to the Museo Vivo del Mare on the lower floor of the building. It is possible to request a guided tour for groups of at least 10 people.

Geographic location
Pioppi can be reached from the North along the A3 SA/RC motorway until the Battipaglia exit where you join the SS 18 Tirrena Inferiore. Continue for approximately 40 km until the Vallo Scalo exit. You then need to travel another 10 km in the direction of Casal Velino Marina and finally follow the signs for Pioppi. The closest station is in Ascea Marina. In the summer period a shuttle connects Ascea station with Pioppi and Acciaroli.
Here are the main ways to reach Pioppi:
By plane: the nearest airport to Pioppi is Naples International Airport (NAP). Naples Airport is served by direct flights from many European and Italian cities. Once you arrive at Naples Airport, you can take a taxi or bus to Naples Central Station. From Naples Central Station, you can take a train to Ascea. The train journey from Naples to Ascea takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes. From Ascea, you can take bus to Pioppi (just in summer). The bus journey from Ascea to Pioppi takes about 10 minutes. It is best to rent a car when you arrive in Naples, especially in the low season. This is because there are not many public transportation options available to visit the Cilento areas and get around easily.
By car: if you are traveling by car, Pioppi is located about 90 kilometers from Salerno, about 100 kilometers from Naples, and about 200 kilometers from Rome. To reach Pioppi by car, you need to take the A2 Salerno-Reggio Calabria highway and exit at Buonabitacolo. From there, follow the signs for Pollica and Pioppi.
By train: if you are traveling by train, Pioppi is served by the Ascea railway station. Ascea station is about 10 kilometers from Pioppi. From Ascea, you can take a taxi or bus to reach Pioppi.
