Marina di Casal Velino: what to do and what to see
Marina di Casal Velino is the only hamlet of the municipality of Casal Velino that overlooks the Cilento coastal shoreline. It enjoys an excellent location: in the center of the coast, bordering the archaeological area of Velia, and well connected with the nearby stations of Ascea and Vallo della Lucania - Castelnuovo. For years, it has received the prestigious recognition of the Blue Flag of Europe. The tourist port, a starting point for excursions along the coast, is also one of the terminals of the Metrò del Mare, which connects Cilento to the famous destinations of Capri and the Amalfi Coast.
There are four beaches in Casal Velino: the sandy shore along the promenade with beach clubs and facilities; the free-access beach of Dominella near the port; the northern beach towards Ascea with an area where access for dogs is allowed; and finally, the pebble beach towards Pioppi, accessible from the descents of "Fossa dell'Elice" and "Piani". Among the places to visit, there is the Chapel of St. Matthew "ad duo flumina". A site of great historical importance that housed the relics of the apostle Matthew, now kept in the Cathedral of Salerno. Additionally, on September 21st, the feast of St. Matthew is celebrated, a deeply felt tradition throughout the area that marks the end of the summer season. On this occasion, the port square comes to life with a free outdoor concert. In the hilly areas of Casal Velino and Acquavella, excellent olive oil is produced, thanks to the presence of centuries-old olive trees and the unique exposure to sunlight and the Mediterranean climate. During the summer, a shuttle service is active that allows you to reach the Ascea train station and the archaeological excavations of Velia from Casal Velino in just 10 minutes. Waste recycling has been practiced in Casal Velino for years. Finally, note that parking along the promenade and near the port is subject to charges from May to September.

How to reach Marina di Casal Velino
Casal Velino is an Italian town in the province of Salerno in Campania. The town is located in the Cilento and Vallo di Diano National Park, about 90 km from Salerno and about 140 km from Naples.

By car: Casal Velino is located on the State Road 18 Tirrena Inferiore, which connects Salerno to Reggio Calabria. For those coming from the north, it is possible to take the A3 Naples-Salerno motorway and exit at Battipaglia. From there, continue on State Road 18 in the direction of Palinuro.
By train: The closest railway stations to Casal Velino are Ascea and Vallo della Lucania-Castelnuovo, both served by the Salerno-Reggio Calabria railway line. From the stations, you can take a bus (usually available from June to September) or a taxi to reach Casal Velino. The train journey from Naples to Casal Velino takes about 2 hours.
By plane: The closest airports to Casal Velino are Naples Capodichino Airport and Salerno Costa d'Amalfi Airport. From the airport, you can rent a car or take a train to get to Casal Velino.
