Discover the love path in Trentinara: a poetic journey through history and evocative panoramas.
Trentinara is a picturesque village perched on top of the Rupe Cantenna, a few kilometers from Paestum and its archaeological site. It boasts a privileged position that offers breathtaking views of the entire Gulf of Salerno, from Capri to Punta Licosa and Mount Gelbison. Trentinara is also known as the town of love, thanks to an ancient legend about the secret and impossible love between the brigand Saul and the daughter of a marquis, Isabella. Unable to live their love freely, the two lovers embraced and jumped to their deaths from the cliff of Trentinara.
Today, the memory of Saul and Isabella lives on in the village's streets, especially in the "Via dell'Amore" (Love Street). This long walk is lined with hand-painted tiles by the artist Sergio Vecchio, engraved with light verses of poets and writers. Before reaching the most panoramic point of the village, visitors pass by the "Terrazza degli Innamorati" (Lovers' Terrace), with its two red benches surmounted by installations that celebrate all forms of love. The route ends in the village square, where the statue of Saul and Isabella stands in a central position. In a corner overlooking the Gulf of Salerno is a sign with the words "Kiss, please," inviting lovers to share a kiss. Another symbol of love for the locals is the "Preta 'Ncatenata" (Chained Stone): two rocks that embrace each other against the backdrop of the Sele Plain.
Trentinara is also a village of ancient gastronomic traditions, which are handed down and celebrated at the annual bread festival in August. Visitors can also enjoy the natural beauty of the area, with many trails to explore on foot or by bike, such as the Tremonti Trail along the Solofrone River and the Sentiero degli Sposi (Newlyweds' Trail). But there is one more thing that the bravest visitors can do in Trentinara: the Flight of the Angel. This panoramic flight at more than 300 meters above sea level lasts for one and a half minutes, and offers stunning views of the Gulf of Salerno, the Cilento Coast, and Paestum. Trentinara is a truly enchanting village, with something to offer everyone. Whether you're a history buff, a nature lover, a foodie, or simply a romantic, you're sure to fall in love with Trentinara.
