The wild beauty of Agnone Cilento and the "Ripe Rosse" promontory in southern Italy
A small fishing village located between Castellabate and Acciaroli, Agnone Cilento is the largest hamlet in the municipality of Montecorice. This paradise in the Cilento National Park is renowned for its crystal-clear sea, award-winning beaches, and rich maritime traditions. Surrounded by the sea, the Pistacchio cliff, and the mouth of the Rio Lapis, Agnone Cilento is a well-known Blue Flag beach resort. This prestigious award, granted by the FEE (Foundation for Environmental Education), certifies the high quality of the water, sustainable land management, and the services offered to visitors.
The Agnone seafront is a haven of peace, closed to traffic and ideal for relaxing walks. Along the promenade, visitors can find shaded areas, seating on low walls, and easy access to the sea. The main beach, located in front of the village square, extends for approximately 450 meters and features a mix of sand and pebbles. Both free beaches and well-equipped establishments with sunbeds and umbrellas are available. The clear waters make this stretch of coastline perfect for swimming, snorkeling, and kayaking excursions.
In the nearby port of San Nicola a Mare, fishing remains one of the main activities. Ancient techniques for processing and preserving fish are still practiced here, including the salting of anchovies and the preparation of tuna in oil, which was once a vital resource for the local community. Fishermen still repair their nets by hand, keeping this centuries-old tradition alive.
Continuing along the coast past San Nicola a Mare, visitors reach the striking Ripe Rosse promontory, a site of great natural interest characterized by its intensely colored cliffs and one of the oldest and most pristine Aleppo pine forests in Italy. This location has been recognized as a UNESCO heritage site for its ecological importance, unique biodiversity, and extraordinary scenic beauty.
Agnone Cilento is a perfect destination for those who wish to discover the true essence of the Cilento, with its unspoiled sea, authentic flavors, and breathtaking landscapes. A place where time seems to slow down, offering unique emotions among nature and the traditions of a village that has preserved its authenticity.
